Pulse Simulator, screen shot #5:

A complex pulse

#1: Normal pulse

#2: Traditional slippery pulse

#3: Very choppy + sinking pulse

#4: Combined slippery and choppy quality

#5: A complex pulse

This pulse is similar to the pulse in slide 4 with the addition of the irregularly-irregular rhythm. The irregularly-irregular rhythm shows up as timing variations between pulse beats. The time span has been expanded to 8 seconds to show more pulse beats and to enhance the effect of the irregularly-irregular rhythm. This also illustrates how you can use the Pulse Simulator to examine very complicated pulses and how you can examine the interactions between multiple pulse parameters in order to gain a greater understanding of TCM pulse assessment.

This type of pulse is typical of a qualitatively more serious condition than that of the previous slide - the Interior Dampness/Phlegm and Stagnation of Blood have affected the heart rhythm and are suggestive of imminent heart failure.
