Clicking on the "Search..." button in the Herb Table will bring up this search dialog box.
The Search dialog allows you to perform multiple simultaneous searches. Each search can be performed in any of the data fields, or in all data fields. For many data fields a menu of possibilities helps you choose reasonable search expressions.
- Perform multiple searches simultaneously. The results will be a compilation of all these
searches.
- Search only in specified fields or search all fields.
- Possibilities button brings up a menu of possible or reasonable search words and phrases. This is very helpful for beginners unfamiliar with standard TCM terminology. (Advanced users may type in search terms directly.)
- Optional use of Boolean expressions allows more sophisticated searches. The last two search
expressions in the above picture show examples of Boolean searches, which may include the AND,
OR, NEAR, and NOT operators, as well as nested expressions using parentheses. Plus (+) signs and minus (-) signs can be used to either require a match, or require that a match not be found. (For example, a search for contraindications might use a minus sign.) A wildcard character (*) can be used to match any sequence of characters.
- Search results may be further refined by using the checkbox options at the bottom of the search dialog.
